My Awesome Summer Vacation
This summer was the best summer ever! I had so much fun and did a ton of cool stuff. I'm going to tell you all about the awesome adventures I had over the past few months. Get ready, because this is going to be an epic story!
It all started at the very beginning of summer break in June. My family and I went on a huge road trip across the country. We loaded up the car with snacks, pillows, and a gazillion activities to keep me and my little brother from getting bored. First, we drove up north to visit my cousins in Seattle. They live right near the ocean, which is crazy since I'm used to living in the middle of Texas nowhere near any beaches.
We spent a few days in Seattle doing touristy things. We went up in the Space Needle, which is this giant tower that looks kind of like a flying saucer landed on top of it. The views from up there were insane! You could see the entire city and all the way across the bay to the mountains. We also went to Pike Place Market, which is this gigantic farmers market with vendors selling fresh produce, fish, flowers and all kinds of other stuff. The coolest part was watching the fishmongers throwing the fish
across the market to each other. Such a weird way to get fish, but it looked fun!
After Seattle, we drove down the Pacific coast through Oregon and California. We stopped at amazing places like Cannon Beach, the Redwood Forest and the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. I had never seen trees as massive as the Redwoods before - they seemed to stretch up into the clouds! The Golden Gate Bridge was painted such a pretty bright red/orange color. We took a billion pictures in front of it, despite the freezing cold fog.
Eventually, we made it all the way down to Los Angeles to visit my aunt, uncle and cousin. They live pretty close to
Hollywood, so we went on a tour of all the famous movie studios and got to see places from movies and TV shows I love. We also went to Santa Monica Pier, which is this awesome boardwalk right on the beach with an amusement park, carnival games, and all kinds of fun stuff. I won a huge teddy bear that was almost as big as me!
After California, we turned around and headed back home to Texas, but not before stopping in Las Vegas for a couple nights. I'm probably not supposed to go into too much detail about that part of the trip! All I'll say is that Las Vegas is super bright, loud
and crazy...especially at night. We did go to some cool shows with acrobats, magic acts and comedy though. I had no idea people could bend their bodies in such inhuman ways until I saw Cirque du Soleil. Wild stuff!
We finally made it back home to Texas in late July after driving almost 7,000 miles round trip. I was exhausted from all the traveling, but sad that our big road trip was over. Thankfully, the adventures kept on coming!
Just a few days after getting back, it was time for me to go to sleep-away summer camp for two weeks. I was a little nervous since it was my first time being away from home for that long without my family. But I ended up having a total blast! The camp was right on a huge lake, so we got to do awesome activities like water-skiing, knee-boarding, canoeing and swimming all day. We also did ropes courses, archery, arts & crafts, sang crazy songs by the campfire and so much more. It felt like camp lasted no time at all because we stayed so busy and had such a good time.
I met my best friends Jayden and Emma at camp, and we've stayed super tight ever since. They're both really funny and cool, so we got along right away. We somehow managed to pull off the coolest prank towards the end too – we snuck out in the
middle of the night and TP'd our counselor's cabin! He was definitely not impressed when he woke up covered in toilet paper, but we all thought it was hilarious. Totally worth the extra chores we had to do as punishment!
When I got home from camp, school was just a few weeks away from starting back up again. My parents felt bad that I had been on the road for so long, so they decided to take me and my brother to Hawaii for a last hoorah before summer ended! We spent six nights on Maui, which was like a paradise island. The hotel we stayed at had infinity pools, waterslides, and was right on the beach. The ocean water was somehow both bright blue and crystal clear - I've never seen anything like it before! We swam with sea turtles, went snorkeling to see all the tropical fish, learned how to surf, and hiked through jungles to beautiful waterfalls. One afternoon, we even got to go whale watching and saw huge humpback whales jumping out of the water! On our very last day, we took a helicopter tour around the entire island. Flying over those incredible views of bright green valleys, towering waterfalls and crashing waves was hands down the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. Even my little brother thought it was cool!
After Hawaii, it was finally time to head back for the start of the school year. I had such an unbelievable summer filled with endless fun and amazing memories. From our cross-country road trip to summer camp shenanigans to tropical adventures in Hawaii, these past few months feel like they were ripped straight out of a movie! Even though I'll miss the freedom and excitement of summer, I had experiences I'll never forget. Seventh grade is going to be awesome, but I'm already counting down the days until next summer!
