tetrachloride, is hydrolysed in the presence of aluminium powder of particle size up to 50microns so as to coat the particles with a layer up to 1000 Š thick of titanium dioxidewhich may be oxygendeficient. The reaction may take place in a fluidized bed, or, in acontinuous process, the powder may be allowed to fall down a column against a flow ofnitrogen entraining titanium tetrachloride and water vapour.
