1.1 Table 1 gives general tightening torques. For each fastener size three tightening torques are given which correspond to three material strength ranges (a, b or c).

The figures are for free running screws and are designed to produce a bolt loadapproaching 75% of its yield load.

1.2 On existing projects, where tightening torques are not called up on drawing and no other guidance is given on the method of tightening, Appendix A should be used for selection of the most suitable tightening torque, i.e. All free running screws/nuts should be
tightened in accordance with Table 1, unless the drawing specifies otherwise.

There are several cases where tightening torques should not be specified. In these
cases, a note must be added to drawing calling up the correct insertion procedure.

Tightening torques should not be specified where screws or nuts with an integral
locking device are used, e.g. self-locking nuts, deformed threads, self-locking heli-coils. Screws must be tightened until they are seen to be fully inserted. Care must be taken
not to apply excessive tightening torque, especially to the smaller fasteners. Once
tightened, back-off by 1/4 turn and then re-tighten.
当螺丝/螺母有完整自锁装置时,锁紧力矩无需被特别指出,例如:自锁螺母、变形螺纹、自锁heli-coils,螺丝必须完全拧入,但是必须注意不要用力过猛,特别是对于一些小的紧固件。一旦螺丝被拧紧,需往回松1/4圈,然后再次把螺丝拧紧。
