摘要：A system for and method of compressing data words of an instruction setincludes storing frequency accessed data words in one or more primary dictionaries.Shortened code words are used to access the data words. Further, less frequently

accessed data words may be stored in one or more secondary dictionaries. The

secondary dictionaries may store difference bit streams that may be also be accessed byshortened code words. A system for and method of decompressing the data wordsincludes accessing one or more of the dictionaries to decode the data words. Anexclusive-OR operation may be performed on an accessed data word and an accesseddifference bit stream to calculate a decoded data word that is not stored in any of theprimary or secondary dictionaries. A header may be used to specify either or both of theprimary and secondary dictionaries referenced.
