A Day in the Life of Li Ming
Hi there! My name is Li Ming and I'm gonna tell you all about a typical day for me. It's a pretty busy schedule but I like to stay on the move. Wake up time is at 6:30am sharp when my mom hollers up the stairs for me to rise and shine. No snooze button allowed in this house!
I stumble out of bed, rubbing the sleepies out of my eyes. First stop is the bathroom to brush my teeth and splash some cold water on my face to really wake myself up. Then it's back to my room to get dressed in my school uniform - a white shirt, navy blue pants, and a red tie with the school emblem on it. Looking sharp!
Downstairs, mom has a nice hot breakfast waiting for me. Maybe some congee with pickled vegetables, or fried dough sticks with soy milk. Yum! I wolf it down quick before grabbing my backpack and hollering \"Bye mom, love you!\" out the door. The walk to school takes about 15 minutes.
School starts at 7:30am with a reading period. We all sit quietly at our desks reviewing vocabulary or reading simple stories. At 8am, classes officially begin with Chinese language first up. We practice writing characters over and over until they are perfect. Next is math, working on addition, subtraction, times tables and all that fun stuff.
At 10am we get a break for morning exercises out in the courtyard. We all line up by class and go through some stretches and light calisthenics to get our blood pumping. A reenergizing snack of some bread or fruit and it's time for the next sessions - science, English, and social studies before lunch.
The lunch break at 12pm is my favorite time! I meet up with my best friends Xiao Zhang and Xiao Li in the cafeteria to compare what delicious dishes our moms packed for us. Maybe some stir-fried vegetables, rice, soup, and if I'm really
lucky...dumplings! We stuff our faces and then run around the playground burning off that energy until the bell rings for afternoon classes.
More lessons on history, geography, art and music take us to the end of the core school day at 3:30pm. But then we have our extracurricular activities! On Mondays I have Chinese yo-yo club. It's SO COOL how you can make the yo-yo spin, sleep, and do all
sorts of tricks. The teacher is a master yo-yoer who can make it flip and fly all over the place. Such skills!
Finally at 5pm, school is done for the day. My grandma picks me up and we go home where I spend an hour or two on homework. Reading comprehension, writing practice, lots of math worksheets. Ugh, homework is the worst! Once I'm finished though, I can finally relax.
I'll hang out with Xiao Zhang and Xiao Li at the park if the weather is nice. We'll play basketball, skip rocks across the pond, or just goof around. Xiao Zhang always tries to scare us with his big hairy caterpillar he keeps in a jar. Gross! When mom calls me for dinner, I head home to eat with my family.
The evenings are pretty chill. Maybe I'll watch a historical drama TV show with my parents or read some comic books. I take a bath around 8pm to get squeaky clean. Then it's putting on my pajamas and hopping into bed. I practice my wordsfughthhh as I drift off to sleep... Zzzzzzzzzzz....

My Day as Li Ming
Hi there! My name is Li Ming and I'm 10 years old. I go to Sunshine Elementary School and I'm in the 5th grade. Today I'm going to tell you all about a normal day in my life. Get ready, because it's a pretty busy one!
It all starts at 6:30am when my mom comes into my room and gently wakes me up. \"Time to rise and shine, Li Ming!\" she says in a soft voice. I groan a little bit, because I really don't like getting up early. But I know I have to listen to my mom, so I drag myself out of my warm, cozy bed.
The first thing I do is go to the bathroom to wash my face and brush my teeth. I put on my school uniform - it's navy blue pants and a white shirt with our school logo on it. Not the most stylish outfit, but it's not too bad I guess.
By 7:00, I head to the kitchen for breakfast. My dad is there cooking up some tasty dumplings. He always makes them from scratch in the morning before work. They're so yummy, especially dipped in a little soy sauce! I gobble them down quickly because I don't want to be late.
At 7:30 on the dot, my parents and I walk out the door and head towards my school. It's only about half a mile away, so we like to walk there together when the weather is nice. We live in Shanghai, which is a huge, crowded city. I love seeing all the tall
buildings and watching the people rushing around on their way to work and school.
We arrive at Sunshine Elementary right at 8:00am. My parents give me a hug goodbye and I join my classmates out on the playground for morning exercises. We have to do jumping jacks, run in place, and stretch for about 15 minutes to wake up our bodies before class. It's not my favorite thing, but I know it's important to stay active.
Finally, at 8:20, the bell rings and we line up by class to go inside the school building. My first class is Chinese language arts. We spend an hour practicing writing out new characters and reading comprehension from our textbooks. It can be kind of boring, but good reading and writing skills are super important. Next up is math class from 9:30 to 10:30. This year we're learning about fractions, which is pretty confusing for me. Luckily, my teacher Mr. Wang is really nice and has an easy way of explaining the tricky concepts. As long as I pay close attention, I can usually follow along.
At 10:30 we get a short 15 minute snack break. A lot of kids bring chips, candy, or pastries from home. But my mom always packs me fresh fruit, carrots, and a bottle of water. She says it's much healthier than junk food. I don't totally agree, because I'd
love to have some cookies sometimes! But the fruits and veggies are pretty good too.
Then it's time for my favorite class - science! From 10:45 to 11:45 we learn about all kinds of cool topics like animals, plants, the human body, and more. Just last week, we got to dissect a frog, which was kind of gross but really neat. We have a lot of hands-on experiments and activities which makes science way more fun than just reading from a textbook.
After science, we have an hour for lunch in the cafeteria at 12:00. They actually have pretty decent food, like fried rice, dumplings, noodles, and veggie dishes. We can pick what we want from the big serving lines. I always go for the fried rice and dumplings because they're delicious! For dessert there are oranges and little yogurt cups.
Once we're done eating, we get to go out to the playground for recess until 1:00. This is the best part of the day if you ask me! I love running around on the playground, playing basketball, jumping rope, and chatting with my friends. We just get to relax, burn off some energy, and have fun.
But then it's back to work starting at 1:15 with English class. This is one of my biggest struggles because English is really hard for me. We have to learn lots of new vocabulary words, read
stories and poems, and practice speaking conversations. My pronunciation is pretty bad, so English is my worst subject for sure. I have to work twice as hard as the other kids.
My last two classes of the day are history from 2:15 to 3:15 and music from 3:30 to 4:30. History is kind of boring because it's just a bunch of dates, names, and facts to memorize about events from China's past. But music is a welcome break at the end of the day! We sing songs, learn about notes and rhythms, and sometimes get to play simple instruments like hand drums or xylophones.
Finally, at 4:30pm, the final bell rings and we're dismissed from school for the day. My parents are usually waiting outside to walk me home. We take the same half mile route back towards our apartment.
Once we get home around 5:00, I get a little bit of free time to relax and have a snack. I'll typically watch some TV, play video games, or read comic books and magazines for fun. Having some downtime is super important after being at school all day! But that relaxing period doesn't last too long. At 6:30, it's time to start my homework. Ugh, the worst part of any day! I'll work on my assignments for Chinese, math, English, and whatever else we have due. It usually takes me around 2 hours to
get through it all. My parents are really strict about making sure I finish all of my homework before doing anything else. At 8:30, I'm finally free from homework duties! We have dinner as a family, which is always really nice. My mom makes amazing home-cooked Chinese dishes like kung pao chicken, beef and broccoli stir fry, or my favorite - hand-pulled noodles. We'll talk about our days and my parents ask me what I learned in each class.
After dinner, I have a little more free time until bedtime. Sometimes I'll FaceTime with my cousins who live in a different city. Other times I read, work on my art projects, or meet my friends at the outdoor basketball court near my building to play some pick-up games.
No matter what though, I have to be back home by 9:30pm to get ready for bed. I take a shower, put on my pajamas, and do my final homework checks to make sure I didn't miss anything. Then my parents will come tuck me in, say goodnight, and I'm off to sleep before my busy day starts all over again! Phew, that was one packed day! As you can see, us elementary school kids have a lot to do. Between all my academic classes, homework, extracurricular activities, and just trying to have some fun...I stay pretty busy from morning until
night. But I don't mind too much. It's all just part of an average day in this 10-year-old kid's life!

My Daily Routine
Hi there! My name is Li Ming and I'm 10 years old. I'm a student in the 5th grade at Sunshine Primary School. Today I'm going to tell you all about my typical day. Get ready, because I have a LOT to share!
My day starts super early at 6:00am when my tinny little alarm clock goes off. I sleepily rub my eyes and crawl out of my warm, cozy bed. The first thing I do is open up the curtains to let the morning sunlight flood into my room. Then I lazily shuffle into the bathroom to brush my teeth and wash my face with cool water to help wake me up.
After getting myself ready, I head to the kitchen where my mom is cooking up a delicious breakfast. The smells of fried eggs, wheat noodles, and warm soymilk make my mouth water! I gobble it all down quickly because I can't be late for school. My mom reminds me over and over to eat slowly and not rush, but I just can't help it.
Once I'm done eating, I double check that I have all my books, pencils, and homework in my backpack. I put on my shoes and my favorite baseball cap that has a cartoon tiger on it. With a quick hug and kiss from my mom, I'm out the door and walking the few blocks to school.
School starts at 7:30am sharp, so I have to boogie to make it on time! I meet up with my best friends Xiao Li and Xiao Wang about halfway there. We talk and laugh about silly things the whole way. Sometimes we even race each other, zooming past the old grandmas with their grocery carts. They shake their heads disapprovingly at us, but we just can't help being kids, you know?
The first class of the day is always math. I'm not a huge fan because I find all the numbers, equations, and word problems to be really confusing. I much prefer our Chinese literature class where we read ancient poems and fables. The stories are so imaginative and teach valuable lessons about life. My absolute favorite class though is art. I love being creative, painting, drawing, and making all sorts of crafty things out of clay, paper, and found objects. Sometimes I zone out daydreaming about becoming a famous artist when I grow up!
We get a short break for lunch at 11:30am. My mom packs me a lunchbox with rice, vegetable stir-fry, and some fruit. I can never finish it all because she always over-packs, saying
\"Growing boys need lots of food!\" I try to trade my leftovers with my friends, but they say their moms do the same thing.
After lunch, we have more classes like science, history, and gym class. Gym is awesome because we get to run around and play games. My favorite is basketball because I'm really tall for my age. The final bell rings at 3:30pm and we're free for the day! Before going home, Xiao Li, Xiao Wang and I always stop at a corner store to buy super sweet popsicles or icy drinks to beat the heat.
Once I'm home, I change out of my uniform and into casual clothes to lounge around in. I spend a couple of hours on homework, taking breaks to watch funny videos or play games on my tablet. For dinner, we usually have simple stir-fries with lots of vegetables, maybe some fish or chicken too. My dad gets home from work around 7pm, so we all eat together as a family. After dinner, I have to take a shower to get squeaky clean. Then I head back to my room to relax before bedtime. I might read a comic book, draw silly pictures or play games until my
parents come tuck me in around 9pm. I'm always pretty tired by then after such a busy day.
As I lay in my bed drifting off to sleep, I think about all the fun and craziness of the day. I'm already looking forward to tomorrow and what adventures it will bring! Being a 5th grader is the best.
Well, that's my daily routine from start to finish. Thanks for reading along! I warned you it would be super long. A day in the life of Li Ming is no boring tale, that's for sure. I'll talk to you again soon!
