One year, a newspaper of the United States published an announcement that the horticultural institute offered a reward at a high price for the pure white marigold (金盏花). The high reward attracted so many people, but in nature besides golden, the marigold is brown, and it is not easy to grow the white one. So after they were excited for a time, many people had forgotten the announcement.
Years flew away. One normal day after 20 years, the horticultural institute that had published the announcement accidentally received a letter and 100 seeds of pure white marigold. On that day the news spread like wildfire.
It turned out to be an old woman of over 70 years old. The institute had always been hesitating over the fact that the letter said with certainty that the seeds could bloom pure white marigold, and the need for verification (验证) became the focus of the debate. Whether they would make an experimental verification or not became the controversial focus at one time.
Some said you would never live up to the old man’s wish. Those seeds finally took root in the earth. The miracle appeared after one year: large patches of pure white marigold waved in the breeze.
Accordingly, the old woman who was always unknown to the public became a new focus.
Originally, the old woman was a flower lover. When she occasionally read the announcement in the newspaper 20 years ago, she was eager to try. But her eight children strongly opposed her decision. After all, a woman who never knew the seed genetics (遗传学) couldn’t complete what the experts could never achieve, so her thought seemed very foolish.

\"Pick up the pace!\" said Amy's husband. \"But I can't!\" Amy said, her heart beating quickly inside. \"I can't go any faster! Her husband encouraged her. \"Yes, you can! You're making progress every day.”
To help Amy stay healthy, her husband had been running with her for over two years. Several years ago, Amy could barely walk down the stairs of her apartment building due to fatness caused by eating disorders. She realized the problem after a failed job interview and began walking to improve her ability to move. At first, she could walk for only 15 minutes at a time. But she pushed herself every day, walking 5 minutes longer than she did the day before until she walked for an hour and eventually two. For three years, Amy kept her walking habit, slowly and
painstakingly building her body shape. Then she changed her walking shoes to running shoes about two years ago and became an excellent runner.
In March 2001, an advertisement invited people to nominate(提名)an ordinary person who inspired them to bring the Olympic flame to Salt Lake City as torch bearers(火炬手)or support runners.(Support runners serve as “guardians of the flame\" and run with torch bearers along the journey.)Amy's experiences touched her husband, so he nominated her to be a torch bearer. The possibility to be selected was low, but Amy wanted to try.
Running taught Amy the importance of training for a race. She pictured herself running a race and crossing the finish line. For months, she ran through her neighborhood carrying a broken-off broom handle, feeling the weight of the torch. She waved at her neighbors, pretending they were cheering crowds. She also printed a picture of a torch bearer wearing the white uniform, replaced the face with a picture of hers, and put it onto her refrigerator door.
Every day, Amy imagined herself as a torch bearer. She was training for a historic running event. On September 26th, while on her daily run through her neighborhood, an express package arrived. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;

I believe that all humans are similar but we are all blind to this idea due to cultures, religions, and appearances that all form wrong ideas separating us as humans.
I recently had to privilege to travel to Africa. This trip allowed me to see a lot more of the world than most students my age. Two years ago, a week after completing my second year in high school I flew to Nairobi, Africa. This day on June 11, 2011 I did not know what to expect.
As a culturally blinded prep school student I stepped off a plane after an exhausting twenty-three hours of sitting. I was immediately exposed to an unknown world. The language as well as skin colors, facial expressions, clothing styles, and the atmosphere changed as a whole.
I was expecting this trip to create huge distinctions between the people of Africa and myself. I learned the total opposite. On the first day I bonded with the school children; I played a soccer game filled with laughter, raced between schoolhouses until our legs gave out and wouldn’t let us run anymore, and hopped in a jump rope contest with a group of enthusiastic girls. When I managed to escape from the lively children and their exciting games, I attempted to make sense of what I had just experienced. My brain was filled with various thoughts, until a little girl with smooth skin, shaved head, and a torn blue and green sweater walked over and hesitantly grasped my wrist. She inspected my hands and rubbed my fingernails. She let my hands drop and she looked at her own with the same attentiveness. Her eyes rose as she began to evaluate my face. I sat down on the earth so that we were eye level and likely for interaction. She then ran her hands through my curly hair and placed her hands on her own head. Then she looked into my eyes; I looked back into hers. Charmed in the moment, I tickled(挠) her stomach, although we were both a stranger to each other. Immediately the school bell rang, she released a smile and ran towards her classroom. 注意:

I prided myself on being a good neighbor. My husband, Charles, and I knew everyone who lived along our rural road. Walking that road now, I thought about how we all relied on each other. We picked up mail for people on vacation, lent out tools, and watched each other's children. Each house I passed held a friendly association.
Except Kelly’s. It hadn’t always been this way. At one time, Kelly and I had a good relationship. Our children were close in age and often played together. Our husbands were playmates. I never went by her house without waving or stopping to chat if I saw her outside.
Not anymore. If Kelly was out in her yard when I walked or drove by, I acted as if I didn’t see her. As if there were a big wall between us. At first it felt satisfying to let Kelly know what I thought of her. Today the sight of her house just made me sad.
How did things go wrong? It had all started with a cat. A stray (流浪猫) who turned up in my driveway. That wasn’t unusual. I already had two stray cats I had adopted as well as a dog. But this cat was violent. He drove my own cats away from their food bowls and hissed at me when I tried to drive him off.
Imagine my surprise a few days later when Kelly announced she was taking in the cat. “I think he’s sweet,” she said.
I didn’t even know that Kelly liked cats. She’d never had one before as far as I knew. Living with Kelly didn’t make the cat any friendlier. He constantly showed up on our porch, stealing our cats’ food and picking fights. “That cat’s out of control,” I said to Kelly angrily over the phone one day. “I’ve had enough of it.”
“He’s always perfectly sweet with us!” Kelly said, getting defensive. “I had no idea you disliked him so much.” 注意:

In the beginning of years, when the world was so new and the Animals were just beginning to work for Man, there was a Camel, and he lived in the middle of a Howling Desert because he did not want to work; and besides, he was a Howler himself. When anybody spoke to him he said'Humph!'Just “Humph!' and no more.
Presently the Horse came to him on Monday morning, with a saddle(鞍) on his back and a bit in his mouth, and said,“Camel,O Camel, come out and run like the rest of us.”
“Humph!”said the Camel;and the Horse went away and told the Man.
Presently the Dog came to him, with a stick in his mouth, and said, “Camel,O Camel, come and fetch and carry like the rest of us.”
“Humph!”said the Camel; and the Dog went away and told the Man.
Presently the Ox came to him, with the yoke on his neck and said,“Camel,O Camel, come and plough(耕田)like the rest of us.”
“Humph!”said the Camel; and the Ox went away and told the Man.
At the end of the day the Man called the Horse and the Dog and the Ox together, and said, “Three,O Three,I'm very sorry for you (with the world so new-and-all); but that Humph-thing in the Desert can't work, or he would have been here by now, so I am going to leave him alone, and you must work double-time to make up for it.”
That made the Three very angry (with the world so new-and-all), and they thought the Camel was a
good-for-nothing on the edge of the Desert; and the Camel came chewing on milkweed, and laughed at them. Then he said 'Humph!' and went away again.
Presently there came along the Djinn in charge of All Deserts, rolling in a cloud of dust(Djinns always travel that way because it is Magic),and he stopped to the Camel and pow-pow with the Three.
"Djinn of All Deserts,\" said the Horse,“is it right for any one to be idle, with the world so new-and-all?\" “Certainly not,”said the Djinn. 注意:

A monk used to live in a hut at a side of a village. He read books all day long, without worrying for food or money. He was a very kind and tender-hearted person. All the villagers greatly admired his noble character. That is why everyone offered him food and wanted to help him.
Once, it was a cold winter. The monk had a fire burning in his hut for warmth. Suddenly, there was a knock at his door. The monk wondered who it could be out at such a cold night, He opened the door and found a fox out there shivering in cold. She spoke, “I live on the hills out there. Heavy snow is falling there, making my life difficult. Please kindly give me a little room in your hut for the night. I will go away in the morning.” The monk politely called her in and said, “Don’t worry, dear. You can live here as long as you wish.” In the warmth of the heated hut the fox felt very comfortable. The monk gave her some bread and milk. The fox quickly ate it and slept in a corner.
In the morning, the fox asked for the permission to leave. The monk told her to come whenever she liked. The fox again came back at the night. The monk talked with her about the day's happenings and gave her some food. After
eating, the fox went to sleep.
A few months passed and the season changed. One day the fox said, “You took so great care of me all through the winter, I want to do something for you in return.” The monk remarked, “Dear fox, it was my duty to do something for you. Please don't embarrass me by talking in this way.” The fox pleaded, “I am not trying to pay back your kindness. I love you and respect you. By doing something for you I will feel a great pride in me. I wish to be of some use to you.” Paragraph 1

Arthur was messy. He didn’t try to make messes, but he didn’t try to clean up much, either. There were always small pieces of food on the table when he was done eating. His socks never made it into the hamper (洗衣篮). And he only picked up his toys when Mom threatened to throw them away. Most days, Mom followed Arthur around the house and cleaned up after him. She brushed the crumbs (碎屑) into her hand and threw them away after meals. She picked up his socks and made sure they got washed, dried and folded neatly before going back in the drawer. She often picked up his toys when he left them to do something else.
One day, Mom asked Arthur to pick up his toy trains. “Not right now,” Arthur said. He was reading a comic book. The trains had been on the living room floor since the morning.
“You know what, Arthur? I’m not going to ask you again. I’m done cleaning today.” And with that. Mom put her feet up on the sofa and picked up a book to read.
At dinner time, Arthur noticed that there was a big pile of crumbs at his place at the table. Mom’s spot was nice and clean. Arthur didn’t like the crumbs very much. After dinner, Arthur’s feet felt cold. He went to his room and
opened his drawer, but the drawer was empty. “Mom, where are my socks?” Arthur called.
“There weren’t any socks in your hamper, so I didn’t wash them,” Mom said. Arthur felt unhappy. Now his feet would be cold, unless he wanted to wear dirty socks from the floor. He decided to stay barefoot.
When it was time for bed, Arthur said good night to Mom and turned to go upstairs. Arthur stepped right on his toy train in his bare feet. “Ouch!” cried Arthur. “That really hurt !”

【湖南省长沙市雅礼中学2021届高三月考】Though it is one of the faded memories of my life today, there are times when I remember his face clearly, especially his eyes. As he had yellow spots on his eyes we called him Spotty. He would have been a stray (流浪) dog, until he came to me.
I was seven years old. My dad had just got a new job in Nasik. We had moved into a rented house. It was raining very heavily on the day we moved.
It was a cold dark night. We had our meal and went to sleep. Somehow in the midnight I heard some strange sounds outside the main door. I gathered courage and looked out through the window and I was really amused with what I saw outside.
There was a small puppy lying on an old doormat which my mother had put outside the door. It was wet and trembling. At first it was difficult to see the lite one. It was the yellow spots on its eyes that made me realize its presence.
It was trying to get under the doormat to avoid the cold air outside and it had managed to get in as I could see
only its head outside the doormat. Was it sick or injured?
I felt pity for the poor soul. I went in and came out with an old towel. I went near the innocent one and held it in my hand and wiped the puppy till he had become dry. I took him into my room and made a bed for him with a woolen blanket and a small pillow. He seemed very healthy and comfortable in his new bed as he went to sleep immediately.
The next morning, everyone in the family came to know about the unusual guest \"Shall we keep him with us?\" I questioned my mom.
Like any other parents would, my parents first tally refused my idea but my sister and I convinced them to keep Spotty.
Slowly Spotty got on with everyone and became one of the family members. Para. 1:

From the first day he entered my classroom, Willard P. Frank existed in his own world, shutting out his classmates and me. My attempts at building a friendly relationship with him were met with complete indifference. I could see that his classmates fared no better. Willard was strictly a loner who seemed to have no desire or need to break his silence.
Shortly after the Thanksgiving holiday, we received word of the annual Christmas collection of money for the less fortunate people in our school district. “Christmas is a season of giving,” I told my students. “There are a few
students in the school who might not have a happy holiday season. By contributing to our Christmas collection, you will help buy food, clothing and toys for these needy people. We will start the collection tomorrow.”
When I called for the contributions the next day, I discovered that almost everyone had forgotten except for Willard P. Frank. The boy dug deep into his pants pockets as he walked slowly to my desk. Carefully, he dropped two quarters into the small container. “I don’t need milk for lunch,” he mumbled. For a moment, just a moment, he smiled. Then he turned and walked back to his desk.
That night, after school, I took our few contributions to the school principal. I couldn’t help sharing the incident that had taken place. “I may be wrong, but I believe Willard might be getting ready to become a part of the world around him,” I told the principal. “Yes.” he nodded. “And we might do well to have him share a bit of his world with us. I just received a list of the poor families in our school who most need help through the Christmas collection. Here, take a look at it.” As I gazed down to read, I discovered Willard P. Frank and his family were the top names on the list. Seeing this, I decided to do something for him.

My single mother used to take on several jobs just in order to make ends meet. When I was fifteen years old, she started her own business, and things began to get easier financially. There was no longer a question as to whether she would be able to afford groceries for the week.
The following spring, when I was sixteen years old, a new family moved into our neighborhood. The wife, Melissa, quickly made friends with my mother, and the children, though younger than me, became my pals soon. They lived within walking distance from us, and once school let out for the summer, I would walk over to their house to watch Disney movies while my mother was at work.
One afternoon, I was at their house during lunchtime, and they were generous enough to include me in the meal.Their daughter, ten at the time, requested a glass of milk with her food.Melissa stated, “We are out of milk, and we don't have any more money for groceries this week.” She suddenly realized that I was present and explained with a defeated look, “Money has been really tight.”
The family had recently moved to Central Pennsylvania from California because Melissa had been offered a good job.The position had not worked out, and her husband had to take the first job he could find. They had uprooted their children and moved across the country, leaving behind family and friends, only to end up in trouble.I thought about our own circumstances just a year earlier.
Later, I carne home with a heavy heart as I reflected on their hardship.I told my mother about the rough time Melissa was experiencing.“Do you think we could help them?” I asked.In response, she immediately opened the cupboard doors and started pulling out food.We searched each cabinet, grabbing bag after bag, can after can-cereal, peanut butter, spaghetti sauce, and more.Then we handled the canning shelf where my mother's precious homemade goods were stored.We found a sizable box and packed it full. 注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
